Communications channel fail, network down
node fail - no communication with that particular node

Star

communications channel fail - no access to network for that particular node
node failure - no access for that particular node
central node failure - network down

Ring

communications channel fail - network down
node fail - network down

Mesh
communications channel fail - no effect on network as there are other routes data can take
node fail - no access for that particular node, but network unaffected

Fully connected Mesh
Same as a mesh topology, but where all nodes are connected to every other node.
Requires more expensive wiring
