The Turing Test

Description of The Turing Test (4 mark exam question)
  • one person sits at a terminal (the tester) two other terminals are in a different room, one operated by another human, another is the system being tested for intelligence
  • the tester can ask questions (any they wish) to the other terminals
  • the other terminals reply to these questions
  • If the tester is unable to differentiate between the responses and tell the difference between the human and the computer - the test is passed

Has it ever been passed?

  • noaw!!

Why is it not the greatest test for modern AI applications?

  • not a great test for modern applications as it only tests one aspect of intelligence
  • being - the ability to communicate
